Lal Kantha says state employees are still stealing, arguing public waste keeps the government under blame despite politicians not stealing now.
Lal Kantha says state employees are still stealing while politicians are not doing so at present, claiming innocent government members continue to receive blame.
Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Irrigation and Livestock Resources K. D. Lal Kantha said the government was determined to remain in power as a non-elite class administration.
“We are determined to remain in power as a non-elite class government. Ranil Wickremesinghe said that nothing would happen until 2024. He told us to tighten our belts. You see, when you have nothing to eat or drink, your stomach shrinks. To tighten a belt, you need to punch two or three extra holes on the inner side. That is what Ranil said to do.
“He told us to stay on until 2048 to rebuild the country. We have commenced work on all highways. We are giving jobs to state employees. Even when this war came, we did not cut salaries or remove farmers’ subsidies. We managed everything and carried on splendidly. The country’s problem right now is not a lack of money. Even if Rs. 100 is allocated, only Rs. 60 worth of work is done. State employees are still stealing. Not in politics. Yet people still scold us. They ask, ‘Why haven’t you changed this?’” he said.
Minister K. D. Lal Kantha made these remarks while addressing a recent event to award appointments to new employees at the National Livestock Development Board.
