Sri Lanka’s Namal Rajapaksa trial over alleged Rs.70 million Krrish misappropriation is set for Nov. 16 in Colombo High Court.
A Sri Lankan court has fixed the Namal Rajapaksa trial for Nov. 16 over the alleged misappropriation of Rs.70 million, or about $230,000, from an Indian real estate company, court officials said Tuesday.
Colombo High Court Judge Nadee Aparna Suwandurugoda scheduled the trial date in the case linked to transactions involving the Krrish Group. The Indian real estate developer had proposed a major multi-million dollar mixed-development project in Colombo.
The court also ordered officials to issue summonses to two Indian witnesses connected to the case. The order follows Judicial Service Commission guidelines on calling foreign witnesses before Sri Lankan courts.
Rajapaksa, a prominent opposition lawmaker representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, is the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. His official Parliament profile identifies him as Hon. Namal Rajapaksa, Attorney at Law, M.P. The Attorney General’s Department initiated criminal proceedings against him. Rajapaksa has previously denied any wrongdoing.
For official parliamentary reference, Namal Rajapaksa’s member profile is available through the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
