Mulberry Holdings fraud suspect Mohamed Isham Jamaldeen, alias Hardy, was arrested at Katunayake Airport over an alleged Rs. 36 million scam.
The Mulberry Holdings fraud investigation led to the arrest of Mohamed Isham Jamaldeen, alias “Hardy,” at Katunayake Airport yesterday, September 2, as he prepared to leave Sri Lanka.
Jamaldeen, 47, is a son of former Governor and former Colombo Mayor A.J.M. Musammil.
Department of Immigration and Emigration officers arrested him at around 1.45 pm after he arrived at Katunayake Airport to board SriLankan Airlines flight UL-503 to London.
Investigators allege that Jamaldeen defrauded nearly Rs. 36 million after presenting himself as a director of a company named Mulberry Holdings.
Authorities arrested him because a foreign travel ban had been imposed in connection with the investigation being conducted by the Colombo Financial and Fraud Crime Investigation Division.
The allegations remain subject to investigation and have not been established as fact by a court.
After the arrest, officers handed Jamaldeen over to the Katunayake Airport Police at around 3.20 pm.
Police later transferred him to the Colombo Central Crime Investigation Division at approximately 4.30 pm for further investigations into the alleged Mulberry Holdings fraud.
