Namal Rajapaksa Airbus probe centres on an alleged Rs. 100 million bribe linked to SriLankan Airlines aircraft purchases, CIABOC says.
The Namal Rajapaksa Airbus probe took a major turn on September 4 after the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption arrested the Parliamentarian over an alleged Rs. 100 million bribe.
The allegation relates to the purchase of Airbus aircraft for SriLankan Airlines.
Rajapaksa had been instructed to appear before the Bribery Commission at 9.00 am to provide a statement regarding the transaction.
After arriving and undergoing several hours of questioning, officials arrested him at around 2.09 pm.
According to an official statement issued by the Bribery Commission, investigators are examining what they describe as a complex financial process linked to the alleged payment.
An amount of EUR 1,454,651.24 had allegedly been received into an account named “BIZ Solutions INC” maintained at Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore.
Of that amount, US$ 800,000 was allegedly credited to an OCBC Bank account in Singapore belonging to “Sabre Vision Holdings LTD”.

Namal Rajapaksa was arrested by CIABOC after appearing to give a statement over alleged irregularities involving SriLankan Airlines Airbus purchases.

Investigators allege that an equivalent amount of Rs. 100 million was later received by Rajapaksa through that businessman on several occasions during 2014 and 2015.
The Namal Rajapaksa Airbus probe is based on statements obtained from Airbus officials in France and the Sri Lankan businessman concerned.
The Commission also says documentary evidence forms part of the investigation.
The allegations remain subject to the legal process and have not been established as guilt by a court.
