Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa has left Sri Lanka for Singapore as investigators continue probing alleged financial irregularities involving Siriliya Saviya.
Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa has allegedly departed Sri Lanka for Singapore early Wednesday, September 16, from Bandaranaike International Airport, according to local media reports.
The departure comes as the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division continues an investigation concerning funds linked to Siriliya Saviya, an organisation formerly headed by Rajapaksa.
Her travel itself has not been reported by authorities as being subject to any restriction, and there has been no official announcement suggesting that her departure breaches any court or investigative order.
Investigation Into Rs. 10 Million Deposit
The current investigation centres on a Rs. 10 million payment from the National Savings Bank to Siriliya Saviya, which investigators are examining in relation to plans to obtain a CT scanner for the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo.
According to reports citing investigators, the money had been transferred following a written request from Siriliya Saviya.
Authorities are attempting to determine how the funds were ultimately used after investigators found that a CT scanner supplied to the hospital had been provided separately by the Chinese government.
No finding of criminal liability against Rajapaksa has been announced in connection with the latest inquiry.
Rajapaksa Previously Questioned
Shiranthi Rajapaksa was previously questioned by the FCID for approximately four hours on February 3, 2026, regarding alleged irregularities associated with Siriliya accounts.
Police have since continued examining banking records and questioning officials connected to the transactions.
Recent reports said investigators intended to obtain a further statement from the former First Lady, although she had reportedly been unwell when questioning was initially expected to take place.
Singapore Departure Draws Attention
Rajapaksa’s departure comes just days after renewed media reports surrounding the investigation.
One local report said she travelled aboard a Singapore Airlines flight early Wednesday, although authorities had not publicly provided detailed information regarding the purpose or duration of the visit at the time of publication.
The investigation remains ongoing, and further statements from police or Rajapaksa’s representatives are awaited.
