Australia Backs President Anura’s “Clean Sri Lanka” Initiative Australia has voiced strong support for Sri Lanka's ambitious "Clean Sri Lanka" project, an initiative launched by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake aimed at transforming the country into the cleanest in Asia. During a recent meeting with Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, Secretary to the President, Australian High Commissioner Paul Stevens commended the initiative, offering Australia’s technical and financial backing. The project, which includes the formation of a Presidential Task Force, is designed to improve cleanliness in public spaces such as bus stations, railways, rivers, and beaches. As part of this effort, Sri Lankan expatriates are encouraged to contribute to a dedicated fund. Stevens emphasized that this anti-corruption and cleanliness drive could also make Sri Lanka more attractive to international investors, supporting the government's broader goals of economic reform. Australia’s commitment extends beyond this initiative, with Stevens also offering continued assistance in national security, maritime affairs, digitalization, and vocational education. The High Commissioner underscored the 75-year relationship between the two countries, affirming Australia's dedication to strengthening bilateral ties and supporting Sri Lanka’s path toward modernization.
