The Sri Lanka Police Headquarters has issued a statement clarifying a false audio clip that has been circulating on social media. According to the Police Media Division, the audio clip, which claims to be a special announcement from the police regarding the government’s “Clean Sri Lanka – 2025” program, is entirely fabricated.
The audio clip in question incorrectly claims that the public is required to keep the areas in front of their homes clean, citing a section of the Police Ordinance, and threatens legal action against those who fail to comply by 15th January 2025.
The Sri Lanka Police have firmly denied issuing such an announcement and clarified that no such directive has been made. They also emphasized that the circulating audio clip is false and misleading.
In response, the police have initiated an investigation and are working to take legal action against the individual responsible for creating and distributing the false audio clip.
