General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Tilvin Silva, declared that the National People’s Power (NPP), symbolized by the ‘Compass’, is poised to claim a sweeping victory in the upcoming local government elections.
Speaking at a public meeting organized to celebrate what was described as a forthcoming triumph for the party, Silva confidently predicted that no political force other than the NPP would prevail.
“This is not just another election,” Silva told supporters. “We must aim for a victory greater than the one we achieved at the presidential and general elections. If we secured 50 percent of the vote at the presidential election and 60 percent in the general election, this time we must reach 70 percent.”
He emphasized that the NPP represents the only viable alternative to traditional political powerhouses, which he claimed have repeatedly failed the people.
Silva’s remarks reflect the growing momentum within the Compass movement, buoyed by public dissatisfaction with the economic and political status quo. The local elections, set to be a barometer of national sentiment, will serve as a critical test of the NPP’s strength on the ground.
As campaigning intensifies, all eyes will be on whether the NPP can indeed translate its recent rise in popularity into a commanding electoral mandate.
