Tensions continue to escalate between India and Pakistan as both nations exchange hostile military claims following an intense night of aerial warfare involving drones and missile systems.
Pakistan has announced that it shot down 25 Indian drones that allegedly targeted several key cities overnight. According to Pakistani military spokesman Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the drones were intercepted and brought down in multiple locations, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Chakwal, Attock, Rawalpindi, Bahawalpur, Mianwali, and Karachi.
Earlier, the same military spokesperson had reported that 12 Indian drones had been shot down, but the figure was later revised to 25. The sudden increase has further raised alarm over the scale and coordination of the alleged drone incursion.
One drone reportedly crashed in Sindh province, resulting in the death of one civilian and injuries to another, according to General Chaudhry.
He also stated that four Pakistani soldiers were injured in what he described as a drone strike on a military camp in Lahore, and that several important infrastructure facilities were destroyed during the wave of attacks.
Meanwhile, India has made counterclaims, stating that it targeted air defense radars and systems across “numerous locations” in Pakistan. In an official statement, India claimed that it had successfully disabled an air defense system in Lahore.”
India did not provide further technical or tactical details on how the air defense system was disabled but emphasized the operation was executed based on reliable intelligence.
The Indian government has not directly addressed Pakistan’s claim of shooting down 25 Indian drones, and the Indian military has yet to comment publicly. The BBC has contacted Indian defense authorities for a response, but no confirmation or denial has been issued so far.
Adding further complexity, India has alleged that Pakistan sent drones and missiles into Indian territory as part of its retaliation, although no official casualty or damage report has been released from New Delhi.
As tensions spiral, the situation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors remains highly volatile, with both sides exchanging firepower and escalating rhetoric, raising international concern over the possibility of broader conflict.
