Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala told Parliament that intelligence agencies have uncovered connections between several high-profile politicians and 10 major criminal gangs operating in Sri Lanka.
The politicians named are reportedly affiliated with the Podu Jana Peramuna, Samagi Jana Balawegaya, the United National Party, and various regional factions.
Minister Wijepala stated that ongoing investigations will lead to arrests, and all relevant details will be disclosed in Parliament in due course.
He further asserted that these political-criminal ties have significantly fueled the rise of organized crime in the country.
