The suspect arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a female doctor at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital told the Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate’s Court that the incident was not an act of force but occurred with mutual consent.
Making a voluntary statement in court, the suspect firmly denied the accusation of rape, saying, “I did not rape her… I joined her with her consent.” He further claimed that he could not comprehend why the doctor would accuse him of such a serious crime.
He also requested that CCTV footage from the hospital gate to the doctors’ quarters be examined, stating that the visuals would verify the doctor’s demeanor at the time and help clarify the circumstances.
Following the statement, the Chief Magistrate instructed the police to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a report to the court.
The case has now taken a new turn, with the court’s directive likely to bring further clarity on the incident as it unfolds.
