MP Ramanathan Archuna has stirred controversy in Parliament by alleging that a luxury house in the heart of Anuradhapura, worth over Rs. 50 million, has been fraudulently registered for just Rs. 5 million.
Speaking during a session in Parliament, Archuna claimed that the property transaction was facilitated by a lawyer affiliated with the National People’s Power (NPP). He pointed out the massive undervaluation, emphasizing that the real market price of the house is at least ten times higher than the amount recorded in the official deed.
In a pointed remark aimed at Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe, the MP stated that the minister is seen “frequently visiting the house even to wash it,” implying a personal connection or use of the property despite not being listed as the owner.
To support his accusation, Archuna tabled the deed and other supporting documents in Parliament, demanding an inquiry into the apparent undervaluation and questioning whether tax fraud or asset concealment may be involved.
As of now, no official response has been given by Minister Samarasinghe or the NPP regarding the allegations.
