Former SriLankan Airlines Chairman Nishantha Wickramasinghe has been remanded until July 1 following his arrest by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC). The arrest is linked to an ongoing investigation into alleged corruption in aircraft procurement during his tenure at the national carrier.
The decision was made by Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela, who ordered Wickramasinghe to remain in custody as inquiries continue. Wickramasinghe, also known as the brother-in-law of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has been a controversial figure in several aviation-related investigations over the years.
The Bribery Commission is probing financial mismanagement and potential abuse of public funds involving SriLankan Airlines aircraft purchases, a case that has drawn public scrutiny due to the airline’s financial struggles.
