Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne is to be arrested over corruption charges tied to the Fisheries Harbours Corporation, officials told the Colombo court. Details inside.
Former Minister Rajitha Senaratne is expected to be named as a suspect and arrested in connection with a high-profile corruption case involving the Fisheries Harbours Corporation, officials from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
This revelation was made during proceedings before Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali Jayatunga, following the arrest of former Fisheries Harbours Corporation Chairman Upali Liyanage. Liyanage was taken into custody over allegations of financial mismanagement and abuse of authority during his tenure.
The Bribery Commission disclosed in court that Rajitha Senaratne, who was serving as the Minister in charge of the subject at the time, will be named as a suspect in the same corruption probe and will soon be arrested. The investigation reportedly centers on irregular financial dealings and potential misuse of state funds under Senaratne’s oversight.
Meanwhile, Upali Liyanage, who was produced before court on related charges, was granted bail by the magistrate.
The case adds to the growing list of legal troubles faced by prominent Sri Lankan politicians amid increasing scrutiny from anti-corruption watchdogs and public pressure for accountability.
