(COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka will open a school in the war-torn Gaza Strip after the cessation of hostilities, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said.
Wickremesighe made these comments recently during a meeting with heads of missions of West Asian countries based in Colombo.
The meeting was mainly aimed at explaining to the envoys Sri Lanka’s decision to deploy two war ships in the Red Sea purely to protect merchant shipping and nothing else.
He made it clear that Sri Lanka has no private agenda to engage any of the warring actors in the region saying the deployment of two war ships was purely for humanitarian purposes and nothing else.
According to officials with the Sri Lanka Navy the vessels are ready to sail to the Red Sea, but no exact date has been finalized.
