A terrifying night of violence unfolds in Kalutara as armed attackers storm a home, leaving destruction behind and raising serious questions about law, order, and retaliation.
A violent late-night attack was carried out in the Bodhiwatte area of Kalutara South, targeting the residence of a retired Army Major amid allegations that he had provided information to the police.
According to police sources, a group armed with sharp weapons and firearms forcibly entered the property and set the house on fire, causing extensive damage and creating panic in the neighborhood.
The incident reportedly took place around 11.30 pm when the attackers arrived carrying petrol in cans and began their assault by targeting the main entrance of the house.
During the attack, a friend of the retired Major who attempted to open the door was brutally assaulted with sharp weapons by the mob before they proceeded to pour petrol over the house and ignite the fire, after which they fled the scene.
The injured individual, who sustained serious wounds during the assault, has been admitted to the Nagoda Teaching Hospital in Kalutara and is currently receiving treatment.
At the time of the incident, the retired Army Major had taken cover inside a room along with his mother, using the space strategically to avoid direct confrontation with the attackers, and it is reported that both escaped without physical injuries.
Despite their safety, the fire caused severe destruction to the house, damaging a significant portion of the structure as well as valuable belongings inside the property.
Kalutara South Police have initiated a comprehensive criminal investigation and are actively working to identify and apprehend the suspects involved in this violent arson and assault case.
