Delhi fire tragedy in Vivek Vihar kills nine people, including a one year old child, after flames spread through a residential complex.
A Delhi fire has killed nine people, including a one year old child, after flames broke out inside a residential complex in the Vivek Vihar area.
The deadly fire also left two others injured, turning an early morning blaze into one of the most tragic residential fire incidents reported in the Indian capital.
The fire broke out on the second floor of the building at around 4:00 a.m. today (03). Emergency services rushed to the location, deploying 14 fire engines to bring the flames under control and carry out rescue operations.
By the time officials reached the scene, the fire had already spread to the third and fourth floors of the building. This raises concerns about how quickly the flames moved through the residential complex and whether those trapped inside had enough time to escape.
Officials stated that more than twelve people trapped inside the building were rescued during the operation. The identities of all nine deceased have now been confirmed.
The highest number of deaths was reported from the second floor, where five members of the same family lost their lives.
Three members of another family who were on the third floor of the building also died in the fire.
However, questions remain over what caused the fire and whether safety systems inside the residential complex were adequate to protect residents during such an emergency.
The fire was brought under control after nearly two hours of effort by emergency teams.
What happens next could be critical, as investigators are expected to examine how the fire started, how it spread across multiple floors, and whether any safety failures contributed to the deaths of nine people in Vivek Vihar.
