Mahinda Rajapaksa summoned by Bribery Commission on May 12 to give a statement over the controversial SriLankan Airlines Airbus deal.
Mahinda Rajapaksa has been officially informed to appear before the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission on the 12th to provide a statement over the controversial Airbus deal.
The official notice summoning the former President was delivered today (09) to his “Carlton” residence in Tangalle.
Although earlier media reports had stated that the former President had been summoned, the official letter was handed over only today.
The summons comes in connection with the controversial Airbus transaction involving SriLankan Airlines, which has drawn renewed political and legal attention.
In relation to this deal, Kapila Chandrasena, who had earlier provided information to court, had alleged through an affidavit that the Director General of the Bribery Commission had threatened him and forcibly obtained a statement.
Against this backdrop, the Commission’s decision to record a statement from the former President has now become a matter of serious attention in both political and legal circles.
