Kapila Chandrasena death probe deepens as Aravinda de Silva and others give statements while a five-member medical team begins post mortem.
Kapila Chandrasena death investigations have intensified after the Colombo Crime Division recorded statements from veteran cricketer Aravinda de Silva and others linked to the Kollupitiya residence where the former SriLankan Airlines CEO was found dead.
A five-member specialist medical committee appointed to conduct the post mortem examination into Chandrasena’s suspicious death began its work today (09).
The committee is headed by Colombo Chief Judicial Medical Officer Dr. Sriyantha Amararatne.
It was appointed following an order issued by Fort Magistrate Pasanna Amarasekera.
Chandrasena’s body was discovered yesterday morning at the residence of veteran cricketer Aravinda de Silva in the Kollupitiya area.
The deceased former SriLankan Airlines CEO was a close relative of Aravinda de Silva.
The Colombo Crime Division has already recorded statements from Aravinda de Silva, his wife, and other individuals who were present at the residence at the time of the incident.
A case was being heard against Chandrasena over an alleged $2 million bribe linked to the controversial Airbus deal in 2013.
A warrant had also been issued for his arrest on allegations that he had misled court by presenting fake sureties.
Chandrasena died on the same day he was expected to appear before court in compliance with that warrant.
Further investigations into the incident, which is suspected to be a death by hanging, have now been handed over to the Colombo Crime Division by the Inspector General of Police.
