Mullivaikkal commemorations were held today across several parts of the North to remember civilians who died during the final stage of the war.
The 17th year commemorative ceremony for civilians who lost their lives was held today, May 18, at several locations, including the Mullivaikkal beach area in Mullaitivu.
The main event of the war commemoration was held at the memorial near Mullivaikkal beach.
A large number of relatives of civilians who died during the war attended the event, along with resettled residents from the area.
Several Tamil political representatives and many religious leaders were also present at the commemorative events.
Meanwhile, at the University of Jaffna, a separate programme was organized by the University Students’ Union and other students.
That event was held at the war memorial located inside the university premises to remember those who died during the war.
In addition, several other remembrance events were organized by civil organizations in Vavuniya, Kilinochchi town, and Mannar town.
Those who attended the commemorations further stated that an acceptable and speedy solution must be provided regarding war crimes allegations and missing persons during the war period.
They also called for such a solution to be pursued through international intervention.
