SJB MPs are reportedly preparing to resign and contest provincial council polls as Chief Ministerial candidates if elections are held.
SJB MPs are reportedly preparing for a major political move, with 11 parliamentarians said to be ready to resign if provincial council elections are held.
According to reports, these MPs plan to step down from their parliamentary seats in order to contest the provincial council elections as Chief Ministerial candidates.
The 11 MPs who have reportedly made this decision are said to represent the Western, Southern, and North Central Provinces.
They have already informed party leader Sajith Premadasa about the matter.
Meanwhile, three former ministers who hold powerful positions in the United National Party have also expressed willingness to contest the provincial council election under the SJB alliance.
They too have reportedly sent messages to the Opposition Leader, seeking to contest for Chief Ministerial positions.
Considering these developments, SJB leader Sajith Premadasa has taken steps to appoint two special committees.
The committees will examine the nomination process for the upcoming provincial council election.
