Suresh Sallay is accused by Sarath Fonseka of acting under Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s approval amid CID custody and Easter probe claims.
Suresh Sallay acted not as an independent military officer but as a loyal servant of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka has claimed, commenting on Sallay’s current detention by the Criminal Investigation Department under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
Fonseka alleged that every action taken by the former intelligence chief was carried out with the approval of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. He further claimed that Sallay would not even go to the toilet without Gotabhaya Rajapaksa’s permission.
Using sharp political language, Fonseka described Sallay as the “backside” of the mastermind, while referring to Gotabhaya Rajapaksa as the “head.” He also emphasized that the other members of the Rajapaksa family were aware of these actions.
Fonseka further alleged that Suresh Sallay maintained close links with Zahran Hashim, who is considered the mastermind of the Easter Sunday terror attack, and his group.
According to Fonseka, thousands of people, including Zahran, were paid salaries by Sallay during the post-war period. He claimed that all those transactions took place with the blessings of the Rajapaksas.
The former Army Commander also recalled his own experience, alleging that it was Suresh Sallay and his group who advised Gotabhaya Rajapaksa on how to harass him by keeping him in custody for eight months without trial or charges.
Fonseka said his wife and daughters were also severely harassed during that period, adding that they were even questioned at the airport.
He further stated that the injustices he and his family suffered are now being faced by Sallay as a consequence of his own actions, declaring that “Sallay’s time” has now come.
