Abdullah Almutairi will continue as Sri Lanka football head coach under FFSL’s new plan after ranking gains and key wins.
Abdullah Almutairi has been retained as Sri Lanka football head coach after the Football Federation of Sri Lanka renewed his contract under its new strategic program, “The Next Chapter.”
The Football Federation of Sri Lanka confirmed the decision on June 22, 2026, at 9:23 AM, reappointing Almutairi to continue leading the national team as the Federation moves into its next phase of development.
FFSL President Jaswar Umar said the decision followed discussions with Almutairi on the future direction and ambitions of Sri Lanka Football.
Umar praised the coach’s professionalism, commitment, and the positive results delivered during his first tenure, noting that Sri Lanka’s FIFA ranking improved from 205 to 187, along with a series of international victories.
He said the Federation was satisfied that key performance targets had been successfully completed and had “no hesitation” in offering Almutairi a second contract.
Under the renewed mandate, Almutairi will guide preparations for upcoming international competitions while leading FFSL’s new technical and competitive objectives.
His role is expected to remain central to strengthening Sri Lanka Football’s foundations, improving competitiveness, and increasing the national team’s visibility at regional and international levels.
FFSL said the renewal marks another milestone in “The Next Chapter,” which it describes as a framework for sustainable development and national team success.
