Senuja Wekunagoda double century powers Sri Lanka Under-19 to 344 for four against India after the Josephian opener finishes unbeaten on 203.
The Senuja Wekunagoda double century placed the St. Joseph’s College alumnus in Sri Lankan cricket history after a commanding performance against India Under-19 in Galle.
The Sri Lanka Under-19 opening batter struck an unbeaten 203 from 227 deliveries at the Galle International Stadium. His innings guided the home side to an imposing 344 for four at stumps on the opening day of the first unofficial Test.
Wekunagoda’s memorable knock included 31 boundaries. The left-hander showed patience, concentration and control throughout his long stay against the Indian youth bowling attack.
The young Josephian remained at the crease throughout the day after Sri Lanka Under-19 won the toss and elected to bat.
His innings gave Sri Lanka a commanding platform in the four-day encounter. It also marked the most significant achievement of his emerging international career.
Senuja Wekunagoda Double Century Sealed with a Four
Wekunagoda completed his double century in memorable fashion during the 87th over of Sri Lanka’s innings.
He stood on 198 when he struck Priyanshu Singh for four from the final delivery of the over. That boundary took him to 202 from 226 balls and confirmed the historic milestone.
Wekunagoda added another run before the close of play. He finished the day unbeaten on 203 from 227 deliveries, recording a strike rate of 89.43.
His innings contained no sixes. That detail underlined the controlled and technically disciplined manner in which the young opener accumulated his runs.
Wekunagoda punished loose deliveries consistently. However, he refused to surrender his wicket during almost an entire day at the crease.

A Proud Moment for St. Joseph’s College
Wekunagoda is an alumnus of St. Joseph’s College, Maradana, one of Sri Lanka’s most prominent cricketing schools.
He represented St. Joseph’s College in leading schools cricket competitions. He also established himself as one of the country’s most promising young top-order batters before progressing to the Sri Lanka Under-19 team.
Earlier in 2026, Wekunagoda scored 88 from 112 balls for St. Joseph’s College during the 92nd Battle of the Saints encounter against St. Peter’s College.
He has also produced several important innings for the Josephians in Sri Lanka’s Under-19 Division I cricket tournament.
Therefore, his double century against India Under-19 represents another major achievement for the proud cricketing tradition of St. Joseph’s College.
The school has produced numerous players who later represented Sri Lanka at the highest level. Wekunagoda’s latest performance will now be celebrated across the Josephian community.
Senuja Joins an Exclusive Sri Lankan Group
The innings reportedly made Wekunagoda only the third Sri Lankan youth batter to score a double century in a Youth Test or Youth four-day international.
Yashodha Lanka previously scored 213. Meanwhile, current Sri Lanka international Charith Asalanka recorded an innings of exactly 200 during his own Under-19 career.
Wekunagoda has now joined that select group after producing an innings built on endurance, technical skill and controlled aggression.
His ability to convert a strong start into a double century will particularly encourage Sri Lanka’s youth coaches.
Long-format youth cricket requires players to concentrate for extended periods. Batters must also handle changing match situations and construct an innings instead of relying entirely on attacking strokes.
Wekunagoda demonstrated each of those qualities during his 227-ball stay at the crease.
Sri Lanka Build a Commanding First-Innings Total
Wekunagoda anchored Sri Lanka’s innings while wickets fell at the other end.
Kavija Gamage made an important contribution of 49 from 121 deliveries. Lakshya Raichandani caught him off the bowling of Yashbardhan Chauhan.
Gamage’s dismissal left Sri Lanka on 274 for four during the 68th over.
Wekunagoda then joined Chamika Heenatigala in an unbeaten fifth-wicket partnership worth 70 runs from 129 balls.
Heenatigala ended the day unbeaten on 33 from 77 deliveries. His innings included two fours and one six.
The pair safely negotiated the closing stages and prevented India Under-19 from securing another breakthrough before stumps.
India’s bowlers worked throughout the day as Wekunagoda continued to frustrate the visitors.
Pranav Ragavendra finished with one wicket for 63 runs from 17 overs. Jeganathan Hemchudeshan conceded 77 runs from 20 overs without claiming a wicket.
Sri Lanka’s total of 344 for four after 89 overs placed the home side in a strong position heading into the second day.
For Wekunagoda, the unbeaten double century represents a defining moment in his young career. It also provides another encouraging sign for the future of Sri Lankan batting.
