Australia Test captain Pat Cummins discusses Nathan Lyon selection ahead of the second Test in Mackay
Australia were seriously considering a pretty unusual selection call before the second Test against Bangladesh. Pat Cummins revealed that Nathan Lyon could be left out, with Scott Boland coming in to create a four-man specialist pace attack alongside Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood. The thinking was based largely on the conditions in Mackay and whether the pitch would favour seam bowling.
But after looking at the surface again, Australia changed course and confirmed Lyon will keep his place. Boland misses out. Australia have therefore resisted making a dramatic bowling change despite their shock defeat in the first Test.
The one confirmed change is at the top of the batting order. Matthew Renshaw replaces Jake Weatherald, who scored 23 and 0 in Darwin. Renshaw returns to the Test team after more than three years away.
