From Colombo to London and now Los Angeles, Ruby Lovell is a global media personality and international television star that has relentlessly spotlighted her Sri Lankan motherland and birthplace on a world stage. A true creative force, she has brought to the world the red-carpet glamour and Hollywood lights through her dynamic weekly multi award winning Hollywood Entertainment show Right on LA! with Ruby Lovell, a successful series of children’s adventure books set in Sri Lanka, award-winning feature film scripts, and her upcoming energetic and entertaining travel show Island Girl. She is a master producer and storyteller driven with passion, pride and love that sends a powerful message to the world through her mission to put Sri Lanka on the global tourism map.
Ruby Lovell was born in Sri Lanka and raised with a deep love and pride for her island roots and has now become one of the brightest Sri Lankan-born media stars carrying the country’s name across the world.
Today, she is known in the United States as the creator, producer and host of the hugely popular dynamic and fun Los Angeles-based multi- award winning Entertainment show Right on LA! with Ruby Lovell, that boasts a huge global viewership and takes audiences behind the scenes of the glittering world of Hollywood red carpets, celebrity interviews, film premieres, fashion shows, music and television awards.

But behind the lights, cameras and glamour is a story that begins far from Hollywood.
It begins with a Sri Lankan childhood deeply rooted in culture with a diplomatic family and a move to London, with the lifelong belief that Sri Lanka is not merely where she was born: it is the country she continues to carry in her heart and shout about from the mountain tops.
Public profiles describe Ruby Lovell as a Sri Lankan-born, multi-award-winning US and UK National Television Journalist (BAFTA Winner), Producer, Script Writer and Published Children’s Author. Last year, she won US National Arts & Entertainment Journalist of the Year 2025 scooping three awards as Broadcast Journalist of the Year, Anchor/Host of the Year and News Journalist of the Year for her show Right on LA! with Ruby Lovell. A triple win that has firmly placed her as a highly respected true force in global media and storytelling, with an unshakable and proven record for impactful content.
Ruby’s journey began in Colombo.
Her father served as a diplomat for Sri Lanka as Minister Counsellor for Trade and Acting High Commissioner for the Sri Lankan Embassy in London. When you see Ruby in action, she certainly oozes class, finesse, style and elegance: she is stunningly beautiful and very tall. She certainly has a powerful presence in any room and on television.
Ruby has spoken publicly about the culture shock of moving from Sri Lanka to London at the age of seven. In one television interview, she reflected on how that transition helped her understand her identity, difference and the importance of representing her culture with pride and being ‘seen’ and respected.
It was not always easy.
Like many children of the Sri Lankan diaspora, she had to grow up between two worlds. She had to understand the UK while holding on to Sri Lanka and all her familial customs. She had to fit in without disappearing. She had to build a voice without losing her roots.
That childhood would later become part of her creative power and set her apart from all the others.
Ruby did not leave Sri Lanka behind.
She turned Sri Lanka into a story, her story and put it on a global stage.
The Island Girl Who Became A Storyteller
Long before Hollywood red carpets, Ruby was already using storytelling to showcase her heritage, culture and identity.
Her Ruby series of adventure children’s books drew from her childhood memories of Sri Lanka and time spent with her family members. The captivating titles include: Ruby Rides an Elephant, Stop That Monkey! He Stole Ruby’s Ice Lolly set in Sigiriya, and Help! There’s a Gecko in Ruby’s Soup! Her Ruby adventure series of books, set on her beautiful home island of Sri Lanka, won global acclaim and numerous awards, including the title of Diverse Author of the Year for 3 years running, as well as sell-out book signings worldwide including Australia, United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Ireland and the UK, to name a few. She is now in talks with animation studios in LA to bring her books to life on screen.

Ruby’s work has always been more than just entertainment.
It has always embraced cultural storytelling.
It has been a way of making Sri Lanka visible to children, families and audiences and educating them about the pearl of the Indian Ocean island beyond just a map, a headline or a mere holiday brochure.
She has written, produced, reported, interviewed and created across multiple platforms. She is a highly educated, truly extraordinary talent who has taken the warmth and magic of Sri Lanka and placed it inside television, books, red-carpet journalism and a travel show.
Her career is proof that such power and achievement does not always come from government offices. It comes from sheer talent and hard work. In this case, it comes from a talented and beautiful Sri Lankan young woman with a microphone, a camera crew, a captivating smile, and a homeland she refuses to forget and champions wherever she goes.

Yet Ruby has carved her space and is a shining star.
She brings glamour, but also warmth.

She brings ambition, but also humility and her deep-rooted identity.
And importantly for Sri Lanka, she brings the island with her.
The Lotus Festival Moment in Los Angeles
Los Angeles last month celebrated the 45th Annual Los Angeles Lotus Festival, which embraces and celebrates the various cultures in Los Angeles. This year spotlighted and highlighted Sri Lanka as the Host country in collaboration with the Consulate of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles. It was a huge celebration on a world stage for Sri Lankans to showcase our culture, heritage, traditions and the breathtaking natural beauty of the island. Music, dance, wildlife, food, culture, Buddhist heritage, diversity and the beauty of the island were presented not only to Sri Lankans overseas, but also to a wider American and international audience.
Ruby Lovell as a Sri Lankan-born Los Angeles-based Media Star was asked to speak about and encourage tourism to Sri Lanka to the packed crowds that gathered. Her powerful and captivating speech struck a chord with audiences not only in LA but worldwide, generating widespread media coverage across major news platforms and quickly went viral across social media.

That moment was significant. All eyes were on Ruby and on Sri Lanka. Her voice is commanding and when she speaks people listen. The Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass even spoke privately with Ruby, stating she is 100% coming to Sri Lanka. A huge breakthrough encouraging tourism from a notable US dignitary as well as tourists from the US to vacation in Sri Lanka, all thanks to our star Ambassador for Sri Lanka, our shining Ruby.
The Lotus Festival is not merely a community gathering. It is a cultural showcase in one of America’s most visible cities: Los Angeles.
Ruby brought razzmatazz to that stage and platform.
She brought energy.
She brought polish.
She brought the ease of a television personality who knows how to hold attention.
She helped showcase Sri Lanka not only in Los Angeles, but through her media personality and platform to a wider world.
At that moment, she was not simply presenting. She was representing.
Island Girl And The Beauty Of Sri Lanka
Ruby is the Island Girl and is now captivating audiences again with her latest TV project, the superb new Travel Show series called Island Girl created, produced and hosted by Ruby. The show features her as the Island Girl (she is born on the island of Sri Lanka after all), exploring some of the most breathtaking islands across the world. Featuring Sri Lanka as one of the travel destination islands, with prestigious sponsors including Sri Lankan Airlines, Cinnamon 5-star hotel group and Mount Gay Rum, the six-part series is set to launch on television later this year.
AmeriNews recently described Island Girl as an international travel series that blends adventure, culture, food, music and identity through the lens of island communities.
Ruby was featured on the cover of last year’s quarterly issue of LMD International and as the main feature in it titled “Ruby Lovell the Island Girl,” which detailed that the show sees Ruby travel to beautiful islands around the world and showcase the landmarks, wildlife, cuisine, festivals, beaches, attractions, nightlife and hotels.

For Sri Lanka, this is a golden opportunity.
Ruby is not just a presenter discovering Sri Lanka for the first time.
She is a Sri Lankan-born media celebrity returning to the island with memory, emotion, pride and purpose.
She wants the world to visit her island of birth.
She wants the world to see the paradise island she so loves.
She wants Sri Lanka to be viewed through beauty, culture, hospitality, food, beaches, temples, wildlife, smiles, music and the warmth of the local people.
At a time when Sri Lanka needs global promotion, Ruby’s platform offers something valuable.
It offers tourism with personality.
It offers culture with charm.
It offers patriotism with glamour.
The Sri Lankan Government should embrace and back our new Ambassador for Tourism to Sri Lanka worldwide. She has already done so much to deserve this and continues to. Hear hear Prime Minister Harini and President Anura — back our Sri Lankan gem Ruby.
So many Sri Lankan and international brands are clamouring to make her brand ambassador for their respective brands, especially given she is a huge Social Influencer too. Her Instagram @rubylovelljournalist is testament to this.
It is no surprise then that Ruby’s next venture is mentioned in recent articles published in Los Angeles and internationally, that she has produced a range of her own clothing designs under her fashion label Love Ruby that she wears often on screen for her TV shows. Her debut collection, Love Ruby, which is sourced and manufactured in both the UK and Sri Lanka, is set to have a star-studded fashion launch later this year, reflecting her signature blend of elegance, style, vibrancy, standout personality and heart. What an extraordinary creative in the true sense of the word she is.
A Ruby More Precious Than A Diamond
Rubies are amongst the world’s most admired gemstones. The Gemological Institute of America describes ruby as the most valuable variety of the corundum mineral species, the same mineral family that includes sapphire.
Myanmar has historically been famous for rubies, especially the celebrated Mogok region. Mozambique has also become a major modern source of rubies.
Sri Lanka, meanwhile, is globally famous for gems of its own, especially sapphires. Sri Lanka Tourism describes the island as “Ratna-Dweepa,” or the Island of Gemstones, while Ratnapura is widely known as the City of Gems.
But this Ruby is different. This Ruby is most precious.
Ruby Lovell is not mined from stone.
She is a walking, talking, smiling, breathing, beautiful Sri Lankan gem.
Her passion, drive, competence and extroverted personality bring a breath of fresh air to her profession. She carries herself with confidence, poise and joy. Just watch her shows and you will see how fun and engaging she truly is. She knows how to entertain, but she also knows how to promote her identity.
She is the kind of personality who can make people look closely at Sri Lanka.
Not through a political speech.
Not through a government advertisement.
But through charm, television, storytelling and personality.
In that sense, Ruby Lovell may be described as our Sri Lankan ruby more priceless than a diamond.
A Case For Cultural & Tourism Recognition
Ruby has made her ambition clear.
She wants people to view her as a modern, high-achieving, multi-award-winning US & UK National Television Entertainment and News journalist & Producer who wears many creative hats. She is the true Ambassador for Sri Lanka who promotes and represents the island worldwide through her TV shows and media stardom.

The Sri Lankan Government should recognise her contribution by appointing her to a Cultural and Tourism Ambassador Worldwide role.
This deserves serious consideration. You will never find another huge global platform opportunity like this, through Ruby Lovell for a brand or for tourism.
Sri Lanka often speaks about tourism promotion, diaspora engagement and cultural diplomacy. Ruby Lovell is already doing all three.
