Tehran, July 30 – The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has seized a fuel tanker in the Persian Gulf, alleging that it was involved in the illegal smuggling of 1.5 million liters of fuel. The vessel, flagged under Togo, was taken into custody on Monday, July 22.
The tanker, transporting fuel for undisclosed reasons, was apprehended by Iranian authorities who claim the operation was unauthorized. The ship’s crew includes 12 members, among whom are Sri Lankans, according to foreign media reports.
The seizure underscores ongoing concerns about fuel smuggling and the broader implications for international maritime operations in the region. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard has not yet provided further details regarding the legal status or potential consequences for the crew members.
