Let’s Dedicate Ourselves to a Respectable Country
We extend our sincere congratulations to the National People’s Power, led by the Honorable President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, for their historic victory in the general election for the 10th Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
The people have entrusted the current government with the strength to establish good governance, safeguard democracy, and fulfill the nation’s aspirations. It is our belief that the new government will rise to the occasion, overcoming the challenges before us and successfully implementing its policies and programs.
As articulated in their manifesto, the vision of building a “rich country – a beautiful life” is now within reach. As the main opposition party, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya pledges its full support to this endeavor, contributing to governance that respects democratic rights and ensures social justice for all citizens.
We also remind the new government of a crucial lesson from the past: as President Dissanayake himself criticized, enacting laws that violate democratic rights through the exploitation of a two-thirds parliamentary majority should be avoided.
In this election, 1,968,716 citizens placed their trust in the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, securing us 40 parliamentary seats. To those who supported our vision, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Your belief in our policies, programs, and leadership strengthens our resolve.
Moving forward, we reaffirm our commitment to building a respectful and prosperous nation. Together, let us work towards preserving democracy, fostering social justice, and restoring Sri Lanka’s dignity on the global stage.
Sajith Premadasa
Leader,
Samagi Jana Balawegaya / Samagi Jana Sandhana
