Hurried Case Closure with Contradictory Facts by Kollupitiya Police Raises Serious Concerns
By Marlon Dale Ferreira
The case surrounding the tragic death of Caleb Delano Alexander, an Australian national who fell to his death from the seventh floor of Colombo’s Crescat Residence, has been reopened. Authorities have ordered a reexamination of the hurried investigation conducted by the Kollupitiya Police, which concluded that Caleb’s death was a suicide. Chief Police Inspector H.L.Dushmantha’s findings are now under scrutiny for possible procedural lapses.
Reports reaching The Morning Telegraph reveal that civil cases will also be filed against Basil Ranaweera, an administrative staff member at Crescat Residence, and an employee named Prabash De Silva of the Cinnamon Grand Hotel. Both individuals, along with two traffic policemen and others, reportedly entered Caleb’s apartment without prior notice, leading to a scuffle which took place on the balcony just moments before Caleb’s fatal fall.
The 42-Second Video That Changed Everything
The police investigation and subsequent report took a dramatic turn after a 42-second video of Caleb’s final moments surfaced on social media, raising serious doubts about the suicide narrative. The video, captured by an unknown individual, shows Caleb engaged in an altercation with the intruders on his balcony, contradicting the police report that claimed no officers were present at the scene when Caleb fell.
The report’s inconsistencies and omissions have fueled speculation that the incident may have been deliberately hushed up to protect the reputation of the Crescat Residence and the Cinnamon Grand Hotel, both owned by very prominent corporate establishment.
What Really Happened?
Allegedly, a confrontation broke out between Caleb and a Crescat Residence administrative employee named Basil Ranaweera, drawing security personnel from both the Crescat Residence and Cinnamon Grand, as well as two traffic policemen to the scene. A former Crescat staff member, Roshan, had in a video interview with Caleb’s brother Randy Alexander identified those involved, stating they had entered Caleb’s apartment without prior permission while he was alone on the balcony.
The video footage, viewed by many, casts serious doubt on the suicide claim.
“The way Caleb falls backward in the scuffle, it looks nothing like suicide,” said one observer. “The video clearly shows him trying to evade the traffic policeman and others who had taken him by surprise. He leans against the railing, and in the ensuing chaos, they grab his legs, tipping him over backward.”
Unanswered Questions and Suspicion
Why was the investigation rushed? Were the Kollupitiya Police trying to protect the Crescat Residence and Cinnamon Grand Hotel management and the owning establishment? Was the absence of Caleb’s family in Sri Lanka exploited to suppress the truth? These unanswered questions have now left many suspicious of a cover-up.
A Family’s Hope for Justice
Randy Alexander, Caleb’s brother, spoke to The Morning Telegraph after returning to Melbourne, Australia. He confirmed that the family has engaged Australia’s Foreign Service to intervene and push for a transparent investigation.
“Caleb was a philanthropist, a man of empathy and compassion, who devoted his life to helping the less fortunate in Sri Lanka,” said Randy. “His legacy of love and kindness must not be overshadowed by the mystery surrounding his death. We believe the truth will come to light, and justice will prevail.”
A Reader’s Perspective
An avid follower inferred that the release of that 42-second video changed everything.
“At first, people accepted the suicide story, especially since other incidents of individuals jumping from buildings to their death had recently been reported. But this video paints a different picture. It raises the question: were the police trying to protect the interests of the property owners? We may never have all the answers, but with the case reopened, there’s hope that the truth will eventually come to light.” he concluded.
With renewed investigations underway, there is cautious optimism that justice for Caleb Delano Alexander will finally be served.
