Sri Lanka Police issued strict sound control conditions for today’s Nugegoda rally to prevent disruptions to thousands of A-Level students sitting for their exams nearby.
A press release from the Mirihana Police Station outlines the guidelines for sound broadcasting licenses requested by the organizers of the public rally scheduled for 2.00 pm today at the Ananda Samarakoon Open Air Theatre in the Mirihana Police Division. The rally is expected to draw Members of Parliament, political party leaders, dignitaries, supporters and a large public gathering. With heavy footfall and loudspeaker use anticipated, police highlighted the need for strict control due to the proximity of several General Certificate of Education Advanced Level examination centers.
Authorities emphasized that today’s A-Level examinations take place from 0830 am to 1140 am and again from 0200 pm to 0500 pm. The use of loudspeakers during these periods could severely affect students who are either entering the centers, completing their papers or leaving after their exams. Ensuring a disturbance free environment for candidates has been identified as a priority. Police stressed the importance of maintaining clear access routes, minimizing noise pollution and preventing any form of hindrance to students during their examination sessions.
In granting sound broadcasting licenses, officers issued strict instructions that loudspeakers must be operated only within the rally premises and must follow all existing regulations. License applicants were informed to comply fully with the conditions to avoid disruptions to the A-Level examination process. These measures reflect the ongoing effort to balance public political activities with the academic needs of students while maintaining law and order in the area. The police statement urges organizers and attendees to act responsibly as the day involves simultaneous high profile political activity and crucial national examinations.
