With a record $17.2 billion already achieved in 2025, Sri Lanka now sets its sights on a bold $36 billion export milestone while promising a debt-free and independent domestic economy.
The government has unveiled an ambitious economic vision to almost double Sri Lanka’s export earnings to 36 billion US dollars by 2030. Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti announced the target while attending the 33rd NCE Export Awards Ceremony 2025, organized by the National Council of Exporters of Sri Lanka.
Addressing leading exporters and industry stakeholders, the Minister emphasized that export growth remains central to Sri Lanka’s economic recovery strategy and long-term national development plan. He highlighted that the country recorded its highest ever export revenue of 17.2 billion US dollars in 2025, describing it as a strong foundation for future expansion.
According to the Minister, the broader objective is not only to boost foreign exchange earnings but also to strengthen a resilient domestic economy. He reiterated the government’s commitment to building a debt-free economic model that is not overly dependent on foreign influence while safeguarding national independence and identity.
The announcement signals a renewed push toward export diversification, industrial growth, and entrepreneurship development as Sri Lanka aims to reposition itself in global trade markets.
