A fresh political storm is brewing in Sri Lanka as resignation claims, accountability demands, and the unresolved Easter Sunday investigations converge into a moment that could reshape public trust and government credibility.
Kumara Jayakody’s reported resignation has intensified pressure within the government, while fresh calls have emerged urging the temporary removal of Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekara to ensure a fair and independent Easter Sunday investigation. Sri Lanka latest news continues to focus on accountability, transparency, and political responsibility amid growing public scrutiny.
These remarks were made by Father Rohan de Silva during a special report launch event held in Colombo, where key stakeholders gathered to reflect on justice and reconciliation efforts linked to the Easter Sunday attacks.
Speaking at the event titled Memory, Pain and Hope: Seeking Justice 7 Years Later, organized by the Centre for Society and Peace, Father Rohan de Silva noted that the investigations into the Easter Sunday bombings are now moving in a positive direction after years of uncertainty and delay. His comments signal cautious optimism while highlighting the importance of maintaining integrity in the process.
However, he emphasized that concerns remain regarding the role of current Deputy Minister Aruna Jayasekara, who previously served as the Eastern Provincial Commander during the controversial Sainthamaruthu incident. According to him, ensuring transparency and public confidence in the investigation requires that Jayasekara step aside from his position until all inquiries are fully completed.
