Trump Iran warning raises new fears as Tehran says peace talks continue through Pakistan despite disputes over the US proposal.
Trump Iran warning has intensified tensions after the US President said Tehran must make decisions quickly as the deadline to end the war approaches.
US President Donald Trump reportedly warned on the Truth Social network that time is running out fast.
He said that if Iran does not act quickly, nothing will be left for them.
The warning came after Trump held a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the previous day.
Al Jazeera reported that Professor Mohamed Elmasry of the Doha Media Studies Institute in Qatar said Trump’s warning indicates that the US may resume attacks against Iran at any moment within the next 48 hours.
According to the Professor, this is because Iran has not shown the kind of submission that the US President expected.
Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-state Mehr News Agency reported that problematic conditions linked to the US proposal have caused peace talks to break down.
The agency also stated that through his warning on Truth Social, Trump was reminding Iran of a previous warning issued in April.
At that time, he had reportedly warned that he would destroy Iran’s entire civilisation if it did not agree to end the war.
Although Trump said the deadline for reaching a peace agreement is approaching, the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that Iran is still holding talks with the US through Pakistani mediators.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei said at a media briefing yesterday that recent exchanges of views on the peace proposal between the US and Iran continue through Pakistan.
Baghaei also said Iran had made several amendments to the 14-point proposal submitted through the Pakistani government after the US rejected it.
He said the amended proposal had been resubmitted to the US.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry further emphasized that the proposal clearly states Iran’s right to enrich uranium within the international framework.
It also said Iran and Oman had held discussions on a special mechanism for the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.
Baghaei further stated that Middle Eastern countries must recognize that foreign powers are influencing peace and security in the region.
He also said the UAE establishing relations with Israel is a threat to regional peace.
Al Jazeera reported that the Iranian Foreign Ministry has also emphasized the need for Middle Eastern countries to agree on a regional security framework.
