Heavy rain is expected in southwestern Sri Lanka in the coming days as the southwest monsoon gradually establishes across the island.
The Department of Meteorology said rainfall is likely to increase in the southwestern parts of the country.
According to the forecast issued at 5.30 am today (25), showers or thundershowers may occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western Provinces.
Showers are also expected in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.
The Department said heavy showers exceeding 75 mm may occur in some places in these areas.
Showers or thundershowers may also occur at a few places in the Uva and Eastern Provinces after 1.00 pm.
Meanwhile, fairly strong winds of around 30-40 km/h may occur at times along the western slopes of the central hills.
Similar wind conditions are also expected in the Northern, North Central, North Western, and Southern Provinces, as well as in the Trincomalee District.
The Department of Meteorology has requested the public to take necessary precautions to minimize damage from temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
