SriLankan Airlines has sought another Rs. 100 billion from the government, Harsha de Silva says, amid losses and leadership vacancies.
SriLankan Airlines has requested an additional Rs. 100 billion from the government while the national carrier continues to operate as a loss-making institution, Parliamentarian Dr. Harsha de Silva has revealed.
Speaking during a discussion with a private television channel, the opposition Parliamentarian said the airline had made this fresh financial request despite remaining in a persistently loss-making position.
Dr. Harsha de Silva also raised serious concerns over major vacancies in the airline’s top management. He disclosed that SriLankan Airlines has been operating without a Chief Executive Officer for nearly one and a half years. At present, he said, the institution also does not have a Chairman.
Referring to issues that had emerged over conflicting efforts surrounding a chairman previously appointed by the government, Dr. de Silva questioned the transparency of appointments to key positions within the airline.
He further emphasized that the public has a right to know the truth about how SriLankan Airlines is being managed.
Given the serious concerns surrounding the airline’s financial allocations, governance structure, and leadership vacuum, Dr. Harsha de Silva said the government must act with greater responsibility, transparency, and accountability.
