Ruwan Mapalagama says Pohottuwa selectively accepts foreign reports, backing FBI Easter findings while rejecting Channel 4 claims.
Ruwan Mapalagama has accused Pohottuwa politicians of applying double standards when responding to foreign reports on Sri Lanka, especially regarding the Easter Sunday attacks, Channel 4, and war-related allegations.
The ruling party Parliamentarian made the remarks while taking part in a political discussion on Sirasa TV.
Mapalagama said Pohottuwa operates according to what he described as a “Iguana and monitor” theory (When you’re hungry enough, even a water monitor becomes a land monitor)
According to him, if a person is politically useful to Pohottuwa, that individual is immediately described as a patriot, a war hero, and a good person.
However, he said the same group brands those who oppose them as traitors or soldiers who fled the military.
He then pointed to what he called a clear contradiction in how Pohottuwa responds to international findings.
“Reports from America and Australia about the Easter attack are good. But those same countries gave the Killing Fields report. Oh, that’s not good. Our military didn’t do such things during the war. Channel 4, Asad Maulana – we didn’t do such things,” Mapalagama said.
His remarks questioned why certain foreign reports are accepted when politically convenient, while others are dismissed when they challenge preferred narratives.
