Nicholas Pooran struck an unbeaten 68 after Corbin Bosch and Trent Boult shared seven wickets as MI New York defeated Texas Super Kings by eight wickets at Grand Prairie Stadium. The defending champions restricted Texas to 158 before reaching 162 for two in 17.4 overs, collecting their first victory of the 2026 Major League Cricket season.
MI New York won the toss and chose to bowl against a Texas side captained by Donovan Ferreira in the absence of Faf du Plessis. Boult made an immediate impact, dismissing Saiteja Mukkamalla for a duck from the fifth ball.
Bosch then removed Smit Patel for nine, while Boult accounted for Ferreira and left Texas 36 for three inside five overs. The Super Kings ended the powerplay without the rapid start that had defined their opening victory over Seattle.
Milind Kumar and Shubham Ranjane led the recovery. Milind struck four fours and a six in his 30-ball 39, while Ranjane gradually accelerated after beginning cautiously.
Their fourth-wicket partnership produced 65 from 41 deliveries and carried Texas beyond 100. Romario Shepherd broke the stand by dismissing Milind, giving MI New York an opening into the lower middle order.
Ranjane continued to 49 from 36 balls but fell one run short of his half-century when Bosch removed him. Wiaan Mulder struck 15 from eight deliveries, although Texas could not turn the final five overs into the sustained finish they required.
Bosch dismissed Mulder, Mohammad Mohsin and Nandre Burger to complete figures of four for 29. Boult took the final wicket and finished with three for 18 from 3.2 overs.
Texas were bowled out for 158 in 19.2 overs after losing their last four wickets for 25 runs. Saiteja Mukkamalla’s 17 and Mulder’s brief contribution were the only other scores above 15.
MI New York began positively through Monank Patel and Quinton de Kock. The pair added 49 from 28 deliveries, with De Kock scoring 26 from 16 balls through two fours and two sixes.
Amshi de Silva removed De Kock, but Pooran immediately settled alongside Monank. MI New York reached 56 for one during the powerplay and remained comfortably ahead of the required rate.
Monank struck four fours and a six in a 34-ball 46. His partnership with Pooran added 64 from 46 deliveries before Hardus Viljoen dismissed him with the total on 113.
Texas still required a rapid sequence of wickets, but Pooran denied them that opportunity. The MI New York captain struck six fours and three sixes in his unbeaten 68 from 46 balls, attacking selectively while ensuring the chase remained controlled.
Kieron Pollard followed his century against Washington with an unbeaten seven. Pooran and Pollard added 49 without further loss, completing the pursuit with 14 balls remaining.
De Silva and Viljoen took one wicket each, but Texas could not create enough pressure after failing to defend the new ball. Pooran’s innings was measured rather than reckless, providing the stability the champions had lacked during their top-order collapse against Washington.
Bosch was named Player of the Match after his four-wicket spell dismantled the Texas middle and lower order. Boult’s early strikes were equally important, preventing the Super Kings from establishing a platform before Bosch attacked later in the innings.
MI New York improved to one win and one defeat, recovering quickly from their opening loss and restoring momentum to their title defence. Texas slipped to one victory from three matches after consecutive defeats to San Francisco and MI New York.
The Super Kings next face a rematch with San Francisco in Oakland, where their top order will need to rediscover the aggression displayed during the opening-night chase. MI New York, meanwhile, take confidence from a performance in which their frontline bowlers and captain controlled the match from beginning to end.
