Mr Kottu assault video sparks outrage after owner Viraj Wickramanayake is arrested, bailed and forced to issue public apology.
The Mr Kottu assault video has led to the arrest of Viraj Wickramanayake, owner of the popular local restaurant chain, after public anger spread across social media.
Wickramanayake, who owns Mr. Kottu, was taken into custody after closed-circuit television footage appeared to show him physically assaulting employees inside one of his restaurant outlets. The video quickly circulated online, drawing sharp criticism from the public and labor rights advocates.
The footage shows a man, identified by authorities as Wickramanayake, repeatedly striking staff members at the restaurant. As a result, police launched a preliminary investigation and later confirmed his arrest.
Wickramanayake was subsequently released on bail.
After his release, he issued a public apology, acknowledged his actions and expressed regret over the incident. Labor officials also said they are monitoring the case to ensure workplace safety protocols are enforced.
