Ravi Seneviratne fine ordered by Galkissa Magistrate after guilty plea, while reckless driving and DUI charges remain pending.
Ravi Seneviratne fine proceedings moved forward today (09) after the Galkissa Magistrate ordered the Public Security Ministry Secretary to pay Rs. 2,500.
Galkissa Magistrate Kanchana Neranjala Silva imposed the fine on retired Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Ravi Seneviratne. The order relates to his failure to prevent a traffic accident on Wellawatte Marine Drive in 2023.
Ravi Seneviratne Fine and Pending Charges
When the case came up, the attorney for the accused told court that his client pleaded guilty to the first charge of failing to prevent a traffic accident.
However, the Magistrate ordered the case to be called again on August 20 next year. The court will then decide whether the trial should proceed on the remaining charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal had earlier considered a petition filed by Ravi Seneviratne. He had asked that the trial at the Galkissa Magistrate’s Court be transferred to another court.
The Court of Appeal previously issued an interim injunction in early September 2025, temporarily staying the proceedings.
