House of Fashions arrest leads to owner Priyantha Jayawardena’s remand and hospitalisation during a Customs valuation investigation.
The House of Fashions arrest took place on July 17 after Sri Lanka Customs detained owner Priyantha Jayawardena at his residence over alleged customs valuation irregularities.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court later ordered Jayawardena’s remand. He owns House of Fashions, one of Sri Lanka’s leading clothing and fashion retail companies. Customs officials made the arrest during a special investigation into suspected valuation irregularities.

However, Jayawardena suffered a sudden heart attack shortly after entering Customs custody. Acting on medical advice, authorities admitted him to the Colombo National Hospital. The Chief Magistrate personally visited the hospital to assess his condition before issuing the remand order.
Under the order, Jayawardena remains an inpatient at the Colombo National Hospital under the direct supervision of prison officials. Sri Lanka Customs has not officially disclosed the exact nature or details of the alleged irregularities behind the House of Fashions arrest. Authorities are expected to present further details at the next hearing.
