Hathurusingha compensation of USD 164,000, approximately Rs. 55 million, has been paid by Sri Lanka Cricket to settle the former national head coach’s long-running legal dispute over his 2019 dismissal.
Hathurusingha agreed to withdraw proceedings before the Switzerland-based Court of Arbitration for Sport after the two sides reached a settlement. He had been appointed Sri Lanka head coach in December 2017 on a 36-month contract.

Following his dismissal, Hathurusingha initially sought about USD 5 million in damages, citing loss of income, opportunity and reputation. After the original CAS proceedings failed to progress as intended, he later launched fresh action seeking approximately USD 450,000.
According to Sri Lanka Cricket’s 2025 financial statements, the parties agreed earlier this year on a USD 200,000 settlement, including part of the tax component. SLC subsequently paid USD 164,000 to close the dispute.
The issue had also come before the Committee on Public Enterprises. COPE urged both sides to explore an out-of-court settlement to avoid further legal expenses.
Sri Lanka Cricket had terminated Hathurusingha after citing poor results and disciplinary concerns during his tenure. A one-man inquiry by retired Supreme Court Justice Lalith Jayasuriya found him guilty on six charges.
