The 323 containers Customs controversy has taken a new turn after Sri Lanka Customs said it holds no information or documents on containers allegedly released without physical inspection.
The disclosure came in response to a request submitted under the Right to Information Act No. 12 of 2016.
Attorney Nagananda Kodithuwakku of the Transparency Foundation had requested a list of containers that left Customs under procedures allowing release or clearance without physical inspection.
In response, the Customs Goods Examination Division said it does not possess documents or information concerning containers released without inspection under the procedures referred to in the request.
The reply has added further scrutiny to the 323 containers Customs issue, as questions remain over the records surrounding the controversial releases.
The notice also informed Kodithuwakku that he may file an appeal within 14 days if he is dissatisfied with the decision.
