“They Skipped Voting Because They Thought Our Victory Was Certain” – T.B. Sarath Deputy Minister T.B. Sarath has admitted that a wave of overconfidence among ruling party supporters led to an unexpectedly low turnout at the polls—costing the government valuable votes. Speaking on the aftermath of the recent election, Sarath claimed that many party loyalists stayed home, convinced that victory was already in the bag. “The people had so much faith in our win, they didn’t feel the need to vote,” he said. “Now those same supporters are filled with regret.” The deputy minister pointed to this misplaced certainty as a key reason behind the government’s underwhelming performance at the ballot box, stating that the disappointment has begun to set in among party ranks. His remarks have sparked criticism online, with many questioning whether complacency at the top may have led to the party's electoral stumble.
