At a gathering in Nawalapitiya, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MP Namal Rajapaksa didn’t hold back as he took a jab at the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), accusing them of hypocrisy.
Speaking at a party meeting supporting local government candidates, Namal pointed out that the JVP, which once criticized the expressway projects initiated by the Rajapaksa regime, used the very same roads to travel in busloads to their May Day rally in Colombo on May 1.
“They slammed us when we were building the expressway, but now they eat, drink, and park their vans on it. That’s what we call poetic justice,” he said, with a mix of sarcasm and satisfaction.
He further criticized the conduct of JVP university student activists, stating that before they speak of fixing the country, they should first address the culture of freshman ragging and violence in state universities. “Fix your party before trying to fix the country,” he added.
Rajapaksa also issued a strong reminder that foreign investors will avoid countries where public security isn’t assured, subtly referencing the unrest and student-led protests that have caused turmoil in the past.
The event, held at a private hall in Nawalapitiya, was part of SLPP’s regional campaign to shore up support in local government bodies in both Nawalapitiya and Gampola.
Nobody slammed you people for building the expressway. What every politician of the opposing parties slammed your’ll for the colossal cost per kilometer of which 70% went into the pockets of the Rajapakse’s and their cronies.
