Starting today (June 5), a 24-hour passenger bus service will begin operating directly from Bandaranaike International Airport to Colombo, addressing a long-standing need for convenient public transport access to and from the airport.
Previously operating from the Awariyawatta bus stand nearby, the service has now been extended to originate directly from the airport premises. According to Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, the buses will run 24/7 and are currently operated by private sector companies. Plans are already underway to introduce specialized buses equipped with luggage compartments to enhance passenger convenience.
Staff assigned to the new airport service have undergone customer service training to ensure a friendly and efficient experience for travelers. The fare for a one-way trip from Katunayake to Colombo has been set at an affordable Rs. 290.
This initiative has been implemented with the combined efforts of the Airport and Aviation Services Authority, the Road Passenger Transport Authority, and the Sri Lankan government, marking a significant improvement in airport connectivity for both locals and tourists.
