Colombo, June 7 — Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya revealed in Parliament today that several key documents from the Anti-Corruption Committee established during the Yahapalana government have gone missing, raising serious concerns over the integrity and record-keeping of past investigations.
Responding to a question by MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, the Prime Minister stated that complaint files and documents related to an accident involving a committee member are unaccounted for. “We do not know what happened to the files. We don’t know whether they were removed when former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe became President in 2022,” she said.
The Anti-Corruption Committee was formed in 2015 with Cabinet approval and operated under the Prime Minister’s Office, chaired at the time by Ranil Wickremesinghe. Current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was also a member of the committee.
Other prominent members included Mangala Samaraweera, Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, R. Sampanthan, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, M.A. Sumanthiran, J.C. Weliamuna, Jayampathy Wickramaratne, and Malik Samarawickrama.
“It is common knowledge that President Dissanayake was a member, as he has publicly spoken about the committee multiple times,” Amarasuriya added.
The revelation comes amid growing scrutiny over past corruption investigations and raises new questions about whether evidence and accountability efforts were undermined by internal tampering or administrative neglect.
