The arrest highlights deepening investigations into financial misconduct and black money operations in Sri Lanka.
Former Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, his wife, and daughter were arrested today by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), in connection with a major money laundering investigation.
The arrests came after the trio was summoned to record statements regarding illicit financial transactions, suspected of turning large sums of black money into white through questionable means.
They were subsequently produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, where they were granted bail Rs. 50,000 in cash and nine personal sureties amounting to Rs. 5 million each.
However, the Magistrate ordered the remand of all three after they failed to fulfill the bail conditions as required by the court.
The case underscores mounting legal pressure on high-profile individuals accused of misusing public office for financial gain, as Sri Lanka continues its crackdown on corruption and financial malpractice.
