Public Utilities Commission raises electricity tariff by 18% for households using over 180 units monthly. Low and normal users face no change.
Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, Professor K.P.L. Chandralal, stated that a new tariff revision will be implemented for consumers in the domestic sector with high electricity consumption. Accordingly, it has been decided to increase the tariff imposed on households using more than 180 units of electricity per month by 18 percent.
However, this revision will not affect consumers with normal or low electricity consumption. The Chairman emphasized that there will be no change in the electricity tariffs of domestic consumers who maintain their monthly usage below 180 units. The Commission reached this decision after a public consultation held in consideration of a request made by electricity companies due to rising electricity generation costs.
