Meegoda Dansala accident probe intensifies as police seek three suspects who fled after six people were killed and seven injured.
The Meegoda Dansala accident has prompted Sri Lanka Police to seek public assistance to arrest three suspects who fled after the deadly crash that killed six people.
Police said the horrific accident occurred near a Vesak Dansala in the Meegoda junction area, along the Avissawella–Colombo main road within the Meegoda police area.
According to police, a cab vehicle had sped into a crowd of people who were queuing at the Dansala.
Six people lost their lives in the accident, while seven others sustained serious injuries.
The driver of the cab, who was arrested in connection with the tragedy, was produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court on June 01, 2026.
The court ordered that he be remanded until June 16.
Police investigations have revealed that, in addition to the driver, three other individuals were travelling inside the cab at the time of the accident.
Police said that after the driver was taken into custody, the three other suspects fled the area.
Two special police teams have now been deployed to locate and arrest the suspects.
The wanted suspects have been identified as Attanayake Don Wasantha, a resident of Kudamaduwa, Siddhamulla, Piliyandala, who is also the registered owner of the cab.
The second suspect has been identified as S.K. Kumara, also known as “Sellamuththu Sellakumar,” a resident of Pelanwaththa, Pannipitiya.
The third suspect has been identified as Don Sarath Hettige, also from Pelanwaththa, Pannipitiya.
Police have released photographs of the three suspects to the media and are requesting the public to immediately provide any information regarding their whereabouts.
