Yoshitha Rajapaksa has been summoned by the Bribery Commission over allegations linked to advanced Navy training received in the UK.
Yoshitha Rajapaksa has been directed to appear before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption on the 16th of this month over a complaint linked to his time in the Sri Lanka Navy.
The son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been summoned to provide a statement in connection with an ongoing investigation now being carried out against him.
According to the complaint, after joining the Sri Lanka Navy, Yoshitha Rajapaksa travelled to the United Kingdom to receive further instruction and advanced training.
The investigation is focused on allegations that receiving such overseas advanced training was contrary to the laws and regulations that were in force in the country at the time.
During Mahinda Rajapaksa’s presidency, and while the war against LTTE terrorism was ongoing, Yoshitha Rajapaksa joined the Navy as a Sub-Lieutenant.
After completing his basic military training as a Sub-Lieutenant, he reportedly received advanced naval training from the British government.
